roots+sand+rocks=bad
Jul. 11th, 2006 08:49 pmThe hill to the dock is not fun to traverse. As such, it is the task of my brother and myself to make stairs to the dock. This is to be accomplished by digging into the hill and placing paving stones as steps.
Ordinarily, this wouldn't seem too difficult a task. However, the ground does not appear to actually be made of dirt. It is a mess of roots, rocks, and a sandy substance that is neither dirt nor sand. This poses two problems. First, digging into the ground is proving to be very very difficult. The roots don't like to break. Second, the sand-dirt doesn't do the best job holding the stones in place. I keep feeling like they're going to move and slide all the way down (which, at the moment, isn't very far yet).
So we spent the better half of a day trying to make the steps go. Robert ruined a hammer in the process. We have two steps! Only ten left to go....
This has left me an extremely tired person. I feel like we're never going to get these stairs done.
